Wildwood Church is honored to partner with Angel Food Ministries (AFM), and to serve as a local distribution site in Tallahassee. AFM is a “non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States” (angelfoodministries.com). AFM is devoted to spreading the Gospel of Jesus through salvation tracts that are placed in each food order, and through the individual ministries at local distribution sites all over the US.
Lorri Short is the local coordinator of AFM at Wildwood Church. In the ministry spotlight presented to Wildwood on February 27th, Lorri emphasized that Angel Food is not just for those in desperate need of food relief. It is also a discount food program that can benefit anyone by reducing their average monthly grocery expenses, sometimes as much as half. AFM offers menus that are changed monthly, highlighting different types of food and quantities throughout the year. There are even special food boxes for holidays!
AFM provides an opportunity for people to reach out to their neighbors with something as simple as a box of food. Whether they are someone in need, or just someone who would appreciate a thoughtful gift, Lorri encourages the members of Wildwood to think about opportunities to connect and serve people in their neighborhoods and communities with the love of Christ. There are many possibilities to share a box food with someone, even parents purchasing a box to send their son or daughter at college!
This is also an opportunity for Sunday school classes and community groups to participate in community outreach ministry, by purchasing a box as a group every month to give to someone either they or the church has identified.
Lorri challenges everyone at Wildwood to think of someone who would benefit from an AFM box…either to meet a need, or simply as a gesture to share the love of Christ. Who do you know who could use a box?
