Title:  “Audience of One”
Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

Jesus moves his teaching from what we are to do (Matthew 5:21-48) to why we do it.  He focuses on 3 elements of Jewish piety: alms, prayer and fasting.  He warns against the danger of false motives and play acting to gain the approval of people.  Our whole service is meant to reinforce the need to live with integrity and authenticity before our “audience of One”.

Life Application:  Do you know when you are trying to impress other people through your words and actions?  We all struggle with the temptation to look better than we really are.  How do you deal with this problem?
