Scandalous, Matthew 5:31-32 – Divorce

We return to the Sermon on the Mount and immediately confront Jesus’ teaching on divorce. Divorce is perhaps the leading challenge and sorrow in the Christian church. The focus of our worship today is on the faithfulness, patience and trustworthiness of God toward us. These divine attributes form the basis of our understanding of God’s covenant love which is the foundation for the permanence of our own marital vows.

Life Application: The only person on earth with whom you enter a covenant is a spouse. Do you think you are setting your priorities to reflect the truth that your spouse is the most important person in your life – or has your boss, children or friends assumed that place?
