Jesus’ teaching on oaths and vows may seem irrelevant  to us at first glance.  The profound truth of His words impact us directly because He is calling us to honesty and integrity in our everyday speech.  God cannot lie.  His faithfulness and truthfulness is reflected in the promises of the gospel, which we celebrate today in our participation in the Lord’s Supper.
