Our History

Wildwood Church began as a small group of people meeting in a private home in 1976. Despite the initial commitment of this group of believers, the numbers eventually began to dwindle as the remaining members began to question the viability of the small church. However, they sensed that God still had plans for their local fellowship, and in 1980, they called their first pastor, Rev. Stephen Bradford. They also built a small sanctuary on Meridian Rd.

In the mid 1980s,  the church called Rev. Mike Khandijian as Pastor, and a few years later they erected a larger sanctuary as the church experienced gradual growth.

As this growth continued, Rev. Bob Evans was called on board as the Associate Pastor. The church sold their existing building and purchased property for a future building on Ox Bottom Rd. In the meantime, Wildwood Church moved into temporary facilities at the Waccamaw Center on Sharer Rd, next to Chuck E. Cheese’s, which led to the church becoming known as “the Chuck E. Cheese church.” In 1995, Wildwood completed moving into their new location at Ox Bottom Rd, and the following year, Bob Evans became the Senior Pastor.

In 2001 we moved into the present sanctuary and children/student building.  In 2003 we acquired 42 acres of land 2 miles north of the current church and in 2005 acquired an adjacent 18 acres of land.  This 60 acres of land was purchased with the designed purpose of “Building Bridges into the Community”.  Currently “Building Bridges” has transitioned into “Connect and Serve” with emphasis on serving the community through a Community Center model.  You can read more about how we plan to use this land by clicking here.
